My Granddad's (L) entry into his diary on hearing the news of Japan's surrender. Obviously a man of few words! He was on board the Empress of Australia sailing to the Far East to take part in the Invasion of Japan. He diverted to Hong Kong to help take its surrender #VJDay

Earlier this year at Hampton Court Palace Historic Royal Palaces, 103 yr old Capt Yavar Abbas spoke of the devastating effect of #partition on the Undivided Indian Army. A Muslim, commissioned into the 11th Sikh regiment on 24/01/1943, he would lead Sikh troops in #Burma during #WW2.

24th August 1914... First units of Indian Expeditionary Force “A” leave India for France under the command of General Sir James Willcocks. They would arrive in France on the 30th September and were immediately moved into the Ypres Salient.

On #internationaldogday Bab' and 'Jumbo' with officers of 1st/8th Gurkha Rifles, 1911 Bab' and 'Jumbo', two dogs presented to the 1st Battalion, 8th Gurkha Rifles, by the wife of one of the officers, were awarded the India General Service Medal 1908-35. 1/
