For centuries, a “gossip” was a woman who attended her pregnant relative or friend’s delivery. The word was a corruption of “god-sib” or “god-sibling,” meaning “sister in the Lord.” The gossips offered emotional & physical support. Later, the term took on a derogatory meaning.

This story blew up the same day my daughter, 15, flew unaccompanied to Romania. She is more responsible than me. No, really. (I left all my worldly possessions on the tube yesterday.) It depends on the INDIVIDUAL child. theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/a…

Just interviewed Philippa Langley for a new book - surely no one else has done more to level up history for the north and for women than her? Put another way - which would you visit first - Henry VII in Westminster Abbey or Richard III in Leicester Cathedral?

What is so wonderful about this is my daughter going to visit her grandparents - factory workers under Ceaușescu - is in your narrative upper middle class. Hurrah for the social mobility that freedom of movement afforded.

This am I’m talking to the sister of Fox News cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski he died near Kyiv with producer Oleksandra Kuvshynova. Today it’s more dangerous to be a journalist in Ukraine than to serve in the British military. How do we remember them? Where is their memorial?

You can ya boo sucks all you like about this podcast. You can throw all the white privileged male bull you want at it. But nothing detracts from the fact it is unfailingly brilliant. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Have sacrificed my entire summer on the altar of a book. Never been this pale (and tired) at the end of the summer. Did a ‘tan test’ with my Italian neighbour. 😂 Hope it’s worth it..

Apparently fewer of us are ‘proud of British history’ But if you ask are you proud of ‘Scottish history’ or ‘English history’ the answer would be v different. It is ironic because today British identity is far more inclusive than either Scottish or English identity.

The late Queen on horse back on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square would have been my choice. Not sure how democratic this decision was …. 🤔 bbc.com/news/articles/…
