However major fossil fuel producer countries such as Saudi Arabia, Canada and Australia are either opposing or not supporting higher mitigation goals to stay below 1.5, and phase out ALL fossil fuels because that means they will have to produce less coal, oil and gas.

But here comes the Whammy; fossil fuel, oil, gas, coal are the reason we are in the mess called climate change. They are causing loss and damage and COP after COP continue to be removed or left out of the final agreement

I am at the Biodiversity COP15, in Montreal thanks to the amazing Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) and would like to share with you what is happening at this conference, b/c biodiversity and protection of environment is deeply connected to the climate.

There is massive greenwashing being done here under the guise of "nature positive" solutions. These initiatives are the equivalent of "carbon markets" in the climate space; nations and corps are planting biodiversity in one area to make up for killing it in another

Ayisha Siddiqa (@ayishas12) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Under the international mechanism there is no official definition of nature, which leaves a lot of space for groups to exploit the definition of "nature based solutions." Nature can mean anything, and propagating it at the expensive of native peoples becomes okay.

"Past experiences of offsetting biodiversity have been mostly unsuccessful. Offsetting is often claimed to be done by “preserving existing nature” -thereby allowing one piece of nature to go down without the creation of new areas, still resulting in an overall loss of nature"GYBN

Ayisha Siddiqa (@ayishas12) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If the CBD passes these offsetting mechanism at this COP, it will give businesses the right to destroy nature under the guise of planting it elsewhere. They will get to decide the metrics they use and in turn cause more damage to our planet, and displace people

Attention: Tomorrow at 10am EST a resolution request will be placed in front of the UN general assembly asking the International Court of Justice to clarify on state’s obligations in protecting the rights of present and future generations rights due to climate change

Ayisha Siddiqa (@ayishas12) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The ICJ is the only international body that has not clarified in detail it’s position on the adverse affects of climate change, after the tireless campaign efforts of pacific island students and the worlds youth, this resolution now has the support of 116 nations

Ayisha Siddiqa (@ayishas12) 's Twitter Profile Photo

But it should have the support of all member states, especially the likes of the United States. While the rest of the world once again is standing on the right side of history, the biggest emitters are not.

Visa inequity after all these years of bringing it up to Secretariats, embassy’s and the UNFCCC is just unfair. My African and Asian colleagues have had all of their appropriate documents ready for months now and the German embassies have not given them appointments #SB58

We are just a couple of days away from the 58 Subsidiary Briefings, where the world’s stocktake on emissions and Nationally Determined Contributions will be made public. We have worked tirelessly to ensure our youth from the global south are there

Ayisha Siddiqa (@ayishas12) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We’ve sent hundreds of emails to get badges, we’ve raised funds to make sure people have housing and have flights. We’ve done everything on our end with limited resources and still our colleagues are not being allowed to come the SB’s.

We admire Ecuador’s leadership and applaud the opportunity for Ecuadorians to vote YES for Yasuní. Join me in standing alongside Yasuní and its Indigenous communities in this historic referendum by sharing this important message. #YesToYasuní #SíAlYasuní #YasuníITT
