Senate President Bobby Joe Champion pointed out conflicts of interest are “self-enforcing” and said she’s eligible to vote on matters involving her.

The motion to ask Sen. Mitchell to resign failed 34-33 with Mitchell among those casting the deciding vote. Republicans say she should be barred from voting on an issue directly impacting her due to conflict of interest. The motion would fail either way on a 33-33 tie.

Democrats are pushing back on the Senate GOP motion asking Sen. Nicole Mitchell to resign. They say she deserves due process and an ethics hearing.

HAPPENING NOW: GOP Sen. Karin Housley made a motion on the MN Senate floor asking Senators to vote to ask for Sen. Nicole Mitchell to resign. Mitchell was arrested for burglary last week. She returned to the Senate yesterday.
