Utilise/utilize. Not a "sciencey" way of saying "use", but means to put something to an untended use. I used my laser to stimulate an opsin, but utilised it to boil an egg. Huge bug bear for me, utilise is the most utilised word in scientific writing... 😏

I'm trying to trim this down to size now for journal submission. I liked all the words, they seemed important... 🫣 Maybe if we get enough views on BioRxiv, we don't have to bother going through all the faff of actually publishing, right!? 😈

I joined here back in 2010 mostly to get access to politicians during election campaigns. I think I'll nuke my personal account in the next few days but keep the lab account going (@thecraiglab) a few more weeks in the hope this place gets better again for science. /2
