Intersex persons are human beings like us, they are not a curse, they are not a myth, they are not a taboo, they are human and deserve to be treated with dignity!

Unless required medical interventions are unnecessary, there is no need to force the child into binary boxes. Kenya’s Children Act of 2022 recognizes the Intersex Child.

If you have a child who’s intersex, support & love them for who they are. It’s also a good idea to find some support from other parents with children who are intersex, and make sure your child has opportunities to connect with other children who are intersex.

But just like with non-intersex people, that doesn’t mean that is the gender identity they’ll grow up to have. Being intersex is a naturally occurring variation in humans, and it isn’t a medical problem.

Sometimes doctors do surgeries on intersex babies & children to make their bodies fit binary ideas of “male” or “female”. Doctors always assign intersex babies a legal sex (male or female).
