🌅Delighted to share a paper that spanned the start of not one but TWO labs, now out in Science Advances. With UhrigLab we discovered that plants sense the duration of TWILIGHT via their clock genes LHY/CCA1! A 🧵on what this really means: doi.org/10.1126/sciadv…

In conventional #plantsci research, plants are often grown in controlled conditions where the lights are just switched on-off at the start and end of day. This is not how day-night transitions work in nature! Do plants care? Turns out, they really do!

So nice to see data that many agronomists have known in observation but never tested with rigor - the character of light across a day, across the seasons of a year, have impacted the evolution of land plants in ways we have yet to measure. Exciting work!!!

#ICAR2024 Dawn Nagel from UC Riverside is introducing the concurrent session on plant circadian rhythms with an overview of the biological clock and an announcement about the "first ever" plant chronobiology conference, June 2025 (adjacent to ICAR2025 in Belgium).
