My mom has spent 35 years feeding birds and building healthy habitat in her yard (less than 2 acres) I’m not even actively birding (no optics, I’m mostly inside reading) and I’ve observed >45 species in three weeks here. Hummingbirds, tanagers, owls, towhees, orioles, etc etc

On the low one of the most staggering things about this is how she can hold her unsupported leg stable at an angle where the joint isn't fully locked out while she lines up the shot. That on its own is absolutely insane before you even get to the accuracy of the shot

Fabulous name choice: - It incorporates a relevant regional language - doesn’t lean on irrelevant Ancient Greek/Latin - “ghost wasp” sounds cold as hell

Natives calling this performative don’t love themself. Just say you don’t know any stolen/murdered relatives! How could you get upset about bringing awareness at this level! It’s giving jealousy and hatred. If you’ve been touched by this issue my heart breaks for you! #MMIW #MMIP

I’ve handed a lot of people their first bird. Unbridled excitement is not an uncommon reaction. But I think Ashanti is the first I’ve seen burst into literal tears of joy! This is what it’s all about! 😭😭😭

It's a gift to able to study, see, touch, and understand our mammalian cousins. It's a pleasure to have a chance to share that with our people. It's our duty to tell our stories. Alexi Grousis signin' off The 'We Out Here' Podcast [open.spotify.com/show/2UB9ttvO0…] #Blackmammalogists
