In fact, NY courts estimate that every $1 invested in treatment, the state saves $2.21!! With returns like that, we can’t afford not to do it! 🧵7/9

The DOC just confirmed that 56% of the people incarcerated at Rikers have a mental health diagnoses. Rikers is has become the city’s biggest mental health facility. These individuals have little or no access to meaningful care while they are locked up. #ShutRikers

The Council has called on the Administration to restore funding and prioritize investments for programs that can reduce recidivism and effectively address mental health challenges to prevent unnecessary incarceration and improve public safety. 🧵
