Concerns about ‘rising primary exclusions’ ignore the fact that they’re only rising relative to pandemic historical lows, and are still incredibly rare. Average primary school excludes once every 16 years or so. It’s a unicorn event. This is a manufactured outrage.

There is such a dedicated and high profile lobby of activist organisations and sympathetic journalists who are determined to platform the view that exclusions are bad and must be lower. It is *relentless* and utterly resistant to data, facts or front line experience.

Hard agree. This is terrible writing about a subject from the outside. If you looked at school behaviour data alone, you’d conclude that everything was just fine. But you can’t analyse what isn’t recorded. Scotland’s system is an excellent example of this.
