Serra da Capivara is a great example of a Caatinga biome exclusive to Brazil. Lots of thorny trees and bushes, cacti, and a huge amount of wildlife including capuchins, howler monkeys, deer, ocelots and jaguars. #primatearchaeology Adrián Arroyo Tiago Falótico 🐒
Today we were mapping a high concentration of capuchin stone anvils and hammers. In total 20 separate nut cracking locations were located within a 15 square meter area around two cashew trees. #primatearchaeology MPI-EVA Leipzig IPHES Adrián Arroyo Tiago Falótico 🐒

Ok, can anyone see the spider hole? Capuchins at Serra da Capivara regularly use stone tools to dig for these spiders, but first they have to find the nest. #primatarchaeology The Leakey Foundation IPHES MPI-EVA Leipzig

Serra da Capivara UNESCO 🏛️ #Education #Sciences #Culture 🇺🇳😷 site has an amazing museum. Look at the range of megafauna that once lived here. At some point some of these shared the landscape with humans. Can anyone name them all? The Leakey Foundation IPHES Tiago Falótico 🐒 Adrián Arroyo MPI-EVA Leipzig

Today we were visited by some capuchins as we surveyed some stone tool use sites. We think this baby is 2 weeks old. In about two years it will be a proficient stone tool user. #primatearchaeology The Leakey Foundation IPHES MPI-EVA Leipzig
We've arrived Serra da Capivara. A world heritage site which has some amazing archaeology and rock art. The rock art includes a range of animals and people, including deer, aardvarks, crabs and capuchins. Can you see the 2 kissing people. The Leakey Foundation IPHES MPI-EVA Leipzig
After many delays and cancelled flights, I'm still on my way to Serra da Capivara for this year's capuchin #primatearchaeology fieldseason. In the meantime enjoy some of Brazil's lovely geological formations from the plane
