AI is not some sort of natural phenomenon that will just emerge and become dangerous. *WE* design it and *WE* build it. I can imagine thousands of scenarios where a turbojet goes terribly wrong. Yet we managed to make turbojets insanely reliable before deploying them widely.

Neurotech has become frothy. It is net positive, but technical journalism has a role to play. Naveen Rao has been keeping founders honest. This substack is both brutal and reasonable: “Neurotech has too much head-nodding, passive click-scrolling, hypemongering already. If you see

A smart SLP I met today said that BCIs are not just about communication. The preservation of autonomy is about making choices - independently. BCIs ensure you can keep making choices despite an ailing body. Freedom of expression is a human right and you don’t appreciate it until

Multimodal OpenAI GTP 4o provides environment-relevant inputs and outputs for users. BCIs enable direct thought-control of prompts. This is amazing for people with paralysis.

Generative AI is taking the inputs from the digital world in, generating prompts, and then we’re on the other side. Our deep learning models are making predictions on what the brain wants to do, so the BCI is the harbor of choice, restoring autonomy in decision making.

Apple Vision Pro requires hand gestures to make selections on the screen. Synchron is testing a set of brain gestures derived directly from the BCI, to replace hand gestures, for people like Mark with limited limb function due to conditions like #ALS. www-cnbc-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.cnbc.c…

The hand gestures needed for awesome control of Apple Vision Pro are: Tap, pinch, scroll, pinch and hold, double tap, triple tap. Eye-tracking enables trajectory movement and can do a 'dwell click', which provides a solitary tap. It is timer based, not a voluntary selection.
