Early Dog Violet (Viola reichenbachiana) vs. Common Dog Violet (Viola riviniana).

EDV (L) spur darker than the petals and has short sepal appendages.

CDV (R) spur lighter than the petals and has longer sepal appendages.

Chrysosplenium oppositifolium (Opposite-leaved Golden Saxifrage) from a nice dingle woodland, Potentilla sterilis (Barren Strawberry), Vinca major (Greater Periwinkle) from a sandy hedgebank and Mercurialis perennis (Dog's Mercury) from a nice woodland path edge

Lesser Chickweed (Stellaria pallida) found whilst rummaging in the acid turf of Hartlebury Common. It is odd amongst Chickweeds in that it often has no (or only minute) petals. It also only has 1 to 3 stamen, unlike S. media. Ugly bugger.

This Polypodium I want to say is P. vulgare based on the overall vibe and sori shape. BUT, something is giving me interjectum vibes - I think it's the width of the frond. David it has been a while, What do you reckon? 🌿

Dramatic scenes from the Long Mynd in Shropshire last week. For some reason the ponies decided to have a boxing match. Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) looking autumnal.

Stellaria alsine, Isolepis setacea and Ranunculus flammula still looking good today on Hartlebury Common . Isolepis not recorded here since 1981, a productive lunchtime stroll!

Good to see some water back in the Rush Pool on Hartlebury Common. Was completely dry a few weeks back. Plenty of Hydrocotyle vulgaris (Marsh Pennywort) and Comarum palustre (Marsh Cinquefoil), where the latter has been known since 1821!

I've been looking for smooth cat's-ear (Hypochaeris glabra) for ages and thought that l'd missed my chance to see it this year. Today I caught it flowering, just a stone's throw away from my new house near Hartlebury Common!
