“There really was more beer in the fridge and I drank it myself after you were gone that day” is just about my favorite ending to a Stephen King story

“James Herbert does not just write... he puts on his combat boots and goes out to assault the reader with horror.” Stephen King, 1981 US Signet editions of Herbert classick THE FOG, ’80s and ’70s respectively, pure #PaperbacksfromHell goodness! (no relation to Carpenter film)

Today’s crime fiction finds at Arches Book House, barely a five-minute walk from my home! Don’t know anything about these Cains, and on a quest to have all the Lew Archer books (in whatever editions). Now to rearrange some bookshelves to squeeze ’em in

Cool super-cheap #PaperbacksfromHell find today! I know that true 1st/1st paperback editions of Stephen King’s FIRESTARTER like this one are supposedly scarce but I can’t quite find out exactly why, most online discussions are about the hardcover. Anybody know?? 🙏

Happy birthday, Ray Bradbury, you were the king of dropping six-page stories a kid could read once in 7th grade English class and be haunted by for the rest of their life

My latest add to the #PaperbacksfromHell shelves: this 1975 gothic lovely features terror-fic art by Charles Moll, who also did the cover for AUDREY ROSE. Love that tagline oh so softly

Checking the SF/F shelves in used bookstores is a great strategy! So many authors straddle the line (and some booksellers don’t know any better 😂)

#BOTD the great Ira Levin (1929-2007), who wrote two of the most essential horror texts of the late 20th century, ROSEMARY’S BABY and THE STEPFORD WIVES, whose reverberations are still deeply felt lo these many decades later… #PaperbacksfromHell

#BOTD Irish author Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-1873). Wrote a little something called "Carmilla"... This groovy edition from 1974 or so continues to elude me! #PaperbacksfromHell
