Hi from Smithsonian Panama 👋 Together with former MSc student Daria & lead scientist Dr. Daisy Dent, PhD student Matilde Bragadini has been sampling #soil in #forests of various ages to analyse how #microorganisms change across tropical forests succession. We wish them a great field stay!
On 27 June the Botanical Garden of University of Zurich transformed into an enchanting haven for plant enthusiasts, students & innovators alike for an evening filled with curiosity, discovery & a deep dive into the fascinating world of plants🤩114 young people celebrated #plantday
It's an action-packed week in the lab! 🌱🥼 Maike Friedel Alice Simões Neves & Gülce are prepping a huge experiment – creating mesocosms of plants & ericoid fungi to study how their interactions impact plant productivity 👀 Very cool work led by Camille Delavaux & Laura van Galen 👏
Hi from #ATBC2024 – one of our fave places to get all the latest news about tropical ecosystems! 👋 Dr. Carolina Bello also had the honour this week to present her research on how frugivorous birds can enhance potential carbon recovery in fragmented landscapes – great job, Caro!
#Biodiversity can't be oversimplified; it has to be holistically studied. In a new paper, Andrea Paz, PhD, Thomas Crowther & Daniel Maynard delve deeper into the world of global #biodiversity patterns. Read which functional & phylogenetic insights they uncovered: doi.org/10.1111/geb.13…
New paper out! Dr. Iris Hordijk et al. dive deep into the drivers of dominance & rarity in local tree communities and find that land degradation is a key threat for rare & dominant species alike: doi.org/10.1111/geb.13… Thomas Crowther Daniel Maynard Lalasia Bialic-Murphy Thomas Lauber
This champion passed his aptitude colloquium! 💪 For #PhDstudents at @eth_en, like our Dominic Rebindaine, the colloquium serves as a test to check how fit & robust their PhD plan is. And Dominic obviously smashed the presentation on his #phenology research. Congrats! 👏🥳
"When nature is present in #cities, its #cooling effect can be a critical step in improving the health & wellbeing of people." – Thomas Crowther 📺 Tom talked to BBC how valuable #EcosystemRestoration is to manage #heatstress in #cities – watch now: bbc.com/reel/video/p0j…
👋 from Manchester! Our microbial ecology team arrived at #ICOM12 to present their research on all things #soil & #fungi. Come say hi if you see them, i.e. at the "other endomycorrhiza" workshop led by Camille Delavaux & Laura van Galen! Maike Friedel Alice Simões Neves Sara Cazzaniga
Strong and scale dependent species-area relationships of ectomycorrhizal fungi at the global scale. A fascinating talk by Qingzhou Zhao #ICOM12
Find us at #ESA2024! If you're keen on tree demographics, Dr. Xianyu Yang 杨贤宇 is talking tropical trees, #biodiversity & co-existence bright and early today at 8am (COS33-1). PhD student Katharina Runge already did her talk on ecosystem resilience – great job! events.rdmobile.com/Lists/Details/…
What are the drivers of tree abundance? A new paper led by Dr. Iris Hordijk dives into patterns of dominance & rarity – and takes even a step further to assess the biggest threats to dominant & rare tree species. Read it now: doi.org/10.1111/geb.13… Thomas Crowther Daniel Maynard
So proud of Alice Simões Neves for her successful Master's examination this week (and the mountain of work behind it). Look for it in print soon! Such a pleasure co-advising you with Laura van Galen 🌱🌱🍄 Crowther Lab
👋CALL FOR CONTRiBUTION How does the #PeerReview model differ across research fields? Camille Delavaux, Leland Werden & Matilde Bragadini are launching a #CitizenScience project to find out. Want to share info from your field? Click on the link 👇 Thank you! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…
