Discovery at sunrise 🌅

Yesterday in 1999, space shuttle Discovery launched on the STS-96 mission. During the mission, Discovery made the first ever docking to the International Space Station and its crew completed a spacewalk to attach two new cranes to the orbiting laboratory.

55 years ago today, the Apollo 11 rocket crawled along the three-and-a-half-mile journey to Launch Pad 39A.

The 363-foot-high space vehicle later launched Apollo 11 astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. on the first crewed lunar landing mission.

Amid the lights from the fixed and rotating service structures, space shuttle Discovery rests at Launch Pad 39B after completing the 4.2-mile journey from the Vehicle Assembly Building.

🌎 It’s National Endangered Species Day!

NASA's Kennedy Space Center shares a home with 33 animals on the endangered list including Florida’s scrub jay. Found only in low-growing scrublands, the Florida scrub jay population is about 4,000 pairs and are endangered due to loss of habitat.

NASA, Boeing and United Launch Alliance are now targeting no earlier than 4:43pm on May 21 for the launch of the agency's Boeing Crew Flight Test mission aboard a ULA Atlas V rocket from Space Launch Complex-41.
