US Embassy in #Bangkok told Human Rights Watch last year that #Thailand dissolving MFP Thailand would cross a "red line" for the US-Thai relationship. Wondering what that actually means today, on the eve of the Constitutional Court decision. Great reporting by Kira Kay pbs.org/wnet/preservin…
#ยุบพรรคก้าวไกล: It’s judgement day yet again in Thai politics: the Constitutional Court decides on the fate of MFP Thailand. Our latest CNA report looks how last year’s election winner got here and what happens to Pita Limjaroenrat and others if they get the axe.
I've been covering Thai politics since 2015, and the Constitutional Court has never once conducted themselves democratically. First they came for FFP, now they've dissolved MFP Thailand, the most popular party in the country. In Thailand, there is no true democracy in sight.
It’s official, the new name of the MFP Thailand successor is “People’s Party” #พรรคประชาชน, with all its 143 MPs joining. Parit Wacharasindhu (Itim): “It’s simple why we chose this name: we’re a political party for the people.”
Just hours after Thailand's Constitutional Court dissolved Move Forward Party, I wrote some thoughts for the The Spectator. Thailand should not be viewed as a democracy. And its authoritarian roots are still thoroughly intact. spectator.co.uk/article/thaila…
Thailand's dark era of destroying democracy through unaccountable rulings of the conservative, elite controlled Constitutional Court continues with the dismissal of PM Srettha Srettha Thavisin. The absurdity is palpable! Watch foreign investors head for exits. cnn.com/2024/08/14/asi…
In recent Thai political history, these พรรคเพื่อไทย Pheu Thai Party PMs have been toppled out of office: 1) Thaksin Shinawatra: military coup 2006 2) Samak Sundaravej: court dismissal 2008 3) Somchai Wongsawat: party dissolution 2008 4) Yingluck Shinawatra: coup 2014 5) Srettha Thavisin: court dismissal 2024
Excellent analysis from Ken Mathis Lohatepanont .
In June, The Human Rights Foundation of Monland reported mothers & pregnant women were being forcibly enlisted by the junta to join the military. Now, women in #Shan are being targeted. Thinzar Shunlei Yi & I wrote about the risks women & girls face if conscripted: t.ly/6kXsV bnionline.net/en/news/conscr…
