We listened to our 1st podcast Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D. episode on “Optimal Protocols for Studying & Learning,” practiced our active listening skills & developed some grade 8 studying & learning goals for the year. Students were thinking more intentionally about how they will study!

For day 2, we Introduced our grade 8 rotary and started our class by reading aloud “Rebound” by Eric Walters. We then explored and developed prediction skills. As trivial as it may seem, we explored how prediction makes us stronger and more engaged readers.

After a few years of using The Thinking Classroom framework, students use it smoothly and effortlessly to group up, grab tools, and embrace the task. Today, we used a word scramble activity to warm up and build words

Implementing the Thinking Classroom Framework with the class has been seamless this year. No hesitation No sighs No complaints Grab the markers, find a space, and engage with the task.

Read-aloud picture books for Grade 8s? Yes, please!! We read “The Magical Yet” by Angela DiTerlizzi and then talked about all the things that we feel we are not good at in math - YET!!! #Grade8 #readaloud

We kicked off our Thinking tasks as part of our math program. The beauty of Ss introduced years ago is they got into groups and Just. Started. Working. At the end, a S even asked if he could take a picture of the work because he was so proud of how far they got with the task!

We enjoyed sharing our initial observations and experiences with Ontario’s Cell Phone Policy with CityNews Toronto and Afua Baah. It's always appreciated when current classroom teachers' experiences and voices are welcomed and sought after. toronto.citynews.ca/2024/09/04/tea…

Connections are through content. My first week back was phenomenal, and the class energy was electric. Still, it wasn't because we spent the entire week doing icebreakers but rather through read-alouds, writing prompts, mind-on activities, and thinking classroom tasks. 🙌🏻

I love reading aloud with my grade 8s, especially when coupled with the beautiful activities suggested by Kyleen Beers in “When Kids Can't Read.” Today, we explored and read Chapter 2 of Eric Walters Rebound. Students were hooked, curious and sharing their “gist” statements

The gaslighting begins when teachers comment and share authentic experiences about CLASS SIZE, and the response is, “The data suggests...” Want to hear what class issues manifest as... Listen to episode 135. podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the…

What is a Scientist? Grade 8s explored, brainstormed and communicated their ideas about those that practice different fields of science. We talked about who scientists are, where science is practiced & the challenges in Science. Ss were awesome with our rotation method! 🧪🧬

Today, we had a thoroughly engaging introduction to history class. We used Kent Monkman's depictions of Confederation, an NFB video on Sir John, and our Thinking Classroom Framework synergized with deconstructing photos It was a great fusion of many effective pedagogy 🙌🏻

We used “Tax Collector” today as our Thinking Task for Math! It was also our first day of randomized groups so there was a lot of excitement to get started, but was a big success 😊 Ss had a great time working out their math muscles and our 15 minute task stretched to 30!
