An X-ray space telescope is, right now, revealing the nature of stars, blackholes, dark matter and so much more. We just can't simulate extreme physics like this in a lab, but the Universe can It has fuel for 10+ yrs, but it's facing the axe. How to help: savechandra.org

From Bush House today, the new KCL radio telescope built by the excellent KCL Physics group. It's a horn of aluminium foil, cardboard, and a little copper wire antenna. Excited to have detected the 21 cm line (1420.4 MHz) from the Milky Way !

Love a mystery? So do we. Astronomers recently looked at 13 years of Fermi data, expecting to see the effects of our solar system’s motion through the universe. Instead they saw something totally different … and are still puzzled over it. More: go.nasa.gov/3Xk25eu

If you are at WOMAD tomorrow and Sunday, you can stop by the World of Physics area from 10am to lunchtime and use telescopes with Malcolm Fairbairn and myself. We're listed in the line-up as Daytime Astronomy. Thanks to Kaj Siebert for organizing.

thankfully the weather at WOMAD UK has been lovely, and looking forward to tomorrow (Sunday) from 10am to 1pm for more radio telescope fun.

You may have heard that tonight is your chance to see a rare 'blue supermoon'. A reminder that: - The term 'Blue Moon' was invented in 1937 and has no astronomical significance. - Supermoons look just like any other Full Moon - Looking at the full Moon is always fabulous!
