It is wonderful to work with so many talented leaders in a district that values and encourages collaboration. I love my colleagues!

Spent the morning kicking off the Central District conference of the NCASC hosted by the Massey Hill MHCHS SGA. Inspiring to see so many motivated leaders from across NC!

Excited to represent Massey Hill and Cumberland County Schools at the College Board Forum 2023! Three great days of learning ahead about Advanced Placement opportunities and increasing AP equity and success and college access for students.

Hearing directly from College Board’s Senior VP of AP and Instruction Trevor Parker on major issues for AP and expansion of project-based learning both during instruction and in AP Assessment.

Big nugget from College Board’s SVP of AP regarding who AP helps most based on long term study. AP courses help all students but students below the 50th percentile who are exposed to AP courses experience the biggest gains in college completion. #allmeansall

Great presentation this afternoon at AP Forum by CCSD about their gains in AP results and decreasing access barriers to AP. One big takeaway: the district created crosswalks for AP, CTE, and dual enrollment classes to show how these programs support each other.

Great session at College Board AP Forum by Todd Gragg on Equity Based Grading in AP Courses. Great work being done across the country to ensure equitable practice by transitioning from grading behavior to grading learning.

It was truly an honor to join a distinguished group of leaders from throughout our county for this amazing event! Reading changes lives and I hope that my presence helped at least one student understand the power that reading can have on their life.

It was a distinct pleasure to recognize my superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly at the NCASA Showcase event this evening. Dr. Connelly is doing a great job advocating for public education as the 2024 NC Superintendent of the Year.

So thankful for the continual support of these amazing professionals! Thanks for joining the Massey Hill Class of ‘24 for their graduation today. It was an amazing day!

Honored to be representing Massey Hill and Cumberland County Schools at my first College Board Southern Regional Council meeting. It is an amazing opportunity to advise the College Board based on my experience and the experience of my students and teachers.

Incredibly honored and grateful to my colleagues for selecting me as a 2025 Cumberland County Schools Principal of the Year Finalist. It is humbling to share the stage with this amazing group of premier professionals!

Great opening session at the National Paideia Center Conference at Pepperdine University University. Dr. Goss reminded us about the virtue of phronesis. “Obtain wisdom so that you can determine what is good, act and enhance your environments!”

Enjoyed presenting a session at the National Paideia Center Conference today about the Massey Hill journey to even greater heights through a return to our Classical school roots and Paideia Seminar. Pepperdine University is such a beautiful host campus for the conference!

Always a pleasure to collaborate with colleagues! Melissa Pérez, M.A., NBCT (she/ella/elle) is going to be an amazing school administrator after an already successful career as a teacher and central office curriculum and support leader. Durham Public Schools is very lucky to have her.
