Back in May, I had the amazing opportunity to sail on the R/V Sproul for a day with one of our undergrad biological oceanography classes. I helped students sketch mesopelagic organisms as they came up on trawls. Here’s a few of my sketches!

This came out great actually, took a while to caramelize down, but as soon as our almost-3 yr old took a bite she said “mama do we have plain pasta?” 🙄😂

My time spent living in New Orleans has taught me one very important thing: sausage sucks outside of Louisiana (or France). And you gotta use Camellia kidney beans for a proper red beans and rice.

What's interesting here is that a computer did the fun, creative job of drawing Kermit in various scenarios, and then a human did the boring, labor-intensive job of creating shortcuts with custom thumbnails to open all of their favorite apps. x.com/dlberes/status…

Seems like we've approached this technology backwards. It should be handling the dry data entry and organizational tasks so we can spend our time on Kermit doodles, not the other way around.

GPT is having a profound effect on how students write. Its verbose style, full of cliches and 'fancy', out of place vocabulary is in every paper and draft I read. A few years back, there were grammar errors and awkwardness -- but at least people had their own voice. Now,

Heat wave induced a massive fall!

This is our toddlers favorite dinner, I am so proud she loves okra and rare steak. She doesn’t eat steak often but when she does she knows what’s right! 😁
