Good morning, Yve yve buckland & thank you, somewhat belatedly on my part, I'm afraid. In normal circumstances, I'm not usually a great fan of "Still Life" work but that one is a notable exception along with this one by Elwin Hawthorne from 1928 which is simply stunning, to my eye!
Good morning, Kathryn Kathryn Rimmington & thank you, somewhat belatedly on my part, I'm afraid. I'm not aware that any of the Group artists visited Buckler's Hard but, in later life, Walter Steggles did paint this view of "Keyhaven", just along the coast near Milford on Sea. #ELG
Good morning, Pen Pen Thompson CBE & thank you, somewhat belatedly on my part, I'm afraid. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed you visit to Hay on Wye Hay Festival . Here's one which might be appropriate: "Bethnal Green Free Library" by Albert Turpin from his post-war work. #ELG
Good morning, Lin Lin Chatfield & thank you, somewhat belatedly on my part, I'm afraid. Yes, that one is superb. Here's another Still Life kind of image in "Helichrysums & Freesias" by John Cooper from 1933. #JohnCooper #SundayMorning #EastLondonGroup
Good morning, John John Tizard & thank you, as always. As you say, the days fly by at such an great rate, it is hard to keep a handle on things so Cecil's painting acts as an "anchor". Thanks for your kind comment about our prints: 33.33% off all orders!! eastlondongroup.co.uk/shop/Giclee-pr…
Good morning B&W Thornton of Stratford-upon-Avon & thank you, as always. Here's a lovely photo of Cecil Osborne, with his mother (& her cat!) which I believe might have been taken whilst they were living at 221, Farringdon Road Buildings c.1929/30. #CecilOsborne #EastLondonGroup
Good morning, Annie Annie Walker. #PeaceAndJustice. #Pigoneer & thank you, as always. Yes, hopefully the weather will start to improve now that we're in June! Here's a view of "Littleton Panell" by Walter Steggles that I think might show a Laburnum tree in flower which might be "right" for this time of year
Good afternoon, Tom Tom Murtha. Retired. & thank you, as always. I trust that you are both recovered from your recent bouts of Covid. Here's a lovely sketch of "Corfe Castle" by Walter Steggles from 1937/38 that featured in our recent show Lighthouse Poole that closed on 08/04/23. #ELG
Good morning, Andrew Andrew_S_Hatton & thank you. As you say, you've already answered your question but here's the original oil from which the Shell poster was derived. This is "The Buttercross, Bungay" by Harold Steggles from 1934. It is in the collection Shell Heritage Art at Beaulieu. #ELG
I thought I'd start today with "Cornish Watermill" by Walter Steggles that dates from 1938 & which featured in our show Lighthouse Poole. Along with all orders for our entire range of Giclee prints, it is currently available with 33.33% off until 31/06/24! eastlondongroup.co.uk/shop/Giclee-pr…
Good morning, Rosa Rosa JH Berland & thank you, somewhat belatedly on my part, I'm afraid. Yes, it is a superb painting of a building that still survives in Polperro, I'm pleased to say. The first photo is from Wally's archives from 1938 & the second is of the Crumplehorn Inn.
Good morning B&W Thornton of Stratford-upon-Avon & thank you, as always. Here is the pre-war sketch for "Aldeburgh" by Walter Steggles that I referred to in my original Tweet. It dates from 1932. I have also included a collage of both images, for your interest. #WalterSteggles #Aldeburgh #Suffolk
It has been a long, stressful week & #SundayMorning has arrived so here's our usual start to the day. This is "Sunday Morning, Farringdon Road" by Cecil Osborne from 1929 from the collection Brighton Museums. #CecilOsborne #SundayThoughts #EastLondonGroup
Born on this day in 1890, today would have been Archibald Hattemore's birthday. Here's his painting of "Anemones" that dates from 1931 which is in the collection Wolverhampton Art Gallery. #ArchibaldHattemore #botd #EastLondonGroup
