Following Japan's acceptance of Allied terms, the first overseas Japanese post to surrender was that at Mili Atoll, in the southeastern Marshall Islands. Its surrender took place on 22 August on board the escort ship USS Levy (DE-162)

26 August 2021-an attack outside the Hamid Karzai International Airport Kabul, Afghanistan, killed 13 U.S. service members supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. 11 Marines, 1 soldier and 1 Navy Corpsman persihed in the blast Fair winds and following seas, RIP NEVER FORGET!

29 August 1944 – Pennsylvania’s 28th Infantry Division leads the American contingent in the “Liberation Day” parade down the Champs Elysees as Paris explodes with joy after the Germans withdraw from Paris. They marched through Paris without stopping, and in combat the next day.

6 September 1976– A Soviet Air Force pilot, Viktor Belenko, defects and lands his MIG 25 "Foxbat" fighter jet in Japan and asks for asylum in the United States. The incident was a serious embarrassment for the Soviets, and also provided a treasure trove of intel for US officials.

Patriot Day on September 11th honors the memory of the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the Sept 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Each year in the US, the day is dedicated to remembering those who died as well as those who risked their own lives to save others. NEVER FORGET!
