ONGOING: The students, alumni and the general population at Makerere University are reflecting on Kwame Nkrumah's contributions to Pan-Africanism and integration.

The objective of this day is to explore how Kwame Nkrumah's vision and that of his compatriots can inform and inspire current efforts towards a more united and prosperous Africa.

Dr Rugunda: Kwame Nkrumah influenced the attainment of independence for several countries. As Nkrumah Hall is set to celebrate 70 years of existence, we choose to focus on integration& Pan-Africanism; the ideas Kwame Nkrumah championed; to confront the challenges of our time.

Dr Rugunda: In this 21st Century and modern era, Kwame Nkrumah's views and those of his contemporaries like Julius Nyerere, Patrice Lumumba, among others are needed more than ever to confront the challenges that East Africa and the African Continent face.

There's need for home/Africa bred solutions in order to raise a generation that appreciates the points of view of our fathers and champions of integration and Pan-Africanism. This symposium aims to honor Nkrumah's legacy.

Kwame Nkrumah wanted one Africa. He wanted one army, one flag, & one gov't. We would now be having two USA's (United States of America and United States of Africa). Nyerere proved to us that it was possible by forming a new country - The United Republic of Tanzania. #NkrumahDay
