Check this interesting review by Léa Tison et al. Among other research directions, they highlight the need for considering community and food web structures to understand the effect of pesticides on ecosystem functioning

Pesticide risk during commercial apple pollination is greater for honeybees than other managed & wild bees 🐝 Suggests limiting orchard sprays, while reducing on-farm exposures, won't protect far-foraging bees from off-farm exposures like thiamethoxam 🔗doi.org/10.1111/1365-2…

UPDATED: When I teach Principal Component Analysis (PCA), I use my interactive dashboard with my students so they observe how, through an orthogonal transformation (rotation) of a 2-feature dataset, the variance of the data projected onto one of the components can be maximized.

For those following the ongoing saga of Priyanga Amarasekare—a major update. She speaks out, addressing all charges! This would make for a dramatic novel or Netflix series. But no, it’s the life of our brilliant and deeply caring colleague and friend pamarasekare.org

Is fragmentation bad or good for biodiversity? Yes! We use a classical competition-colonization metacommunity model to show that fragmentation can increase or decrease diversity depending on the total amount of habitat in the landscape. iDiv Biodiversity Research Universität Halle nature.com/articles/s4155…
