*EXERCISE* Today, the LFD is participating with other public safety agencies in the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program disaster exercise. This annual exercise simulates an accident involving chemical agents stored at the Bluegrass Army Depot in Richmond, KY.

This past weekend, three Lexington Firefighters volunteered to provide EMS services for the Honor Flight of Kentucky. We are grateful to our veterans for their service and sacrifice...it was an honor to be with them on this flight. #ThankAVeteran #Honor #Respect

Fire crews are enroute to a reported brush fire near I-75 between MM 113-115. Use CAUTION if traveling in that area.

Avoid the area of Rosemont Garden and Southland Dr. Fire crews working a gas leak. Evacuations in progress. Media staging at Corner of Rosemont Garden and Clays Mill Rd.

Fire crews continue to work an active gas leak in the area of Southland Dr & Rosemont Garden. Scene security and evacuation are our priorities at this time. Avoid the Area!

Update on gas leak at Southland and Rosemont Garden- the main source of the leak has been shut down. We are working to vent the residual build-up that has accumulated underground. No injuries have been reported at this time. Continue to avoid the area.

Successful ventilation has resulted in gas levels returning to a safe level. Roads are being reopened and residents are returning to their homes and businesses. Columbia Gas will remain on scene as they continue to repair the damaged line.

It is safe to return to your homes and businesses in the Southland Dr./Rosemont Garden neighborhood. We have had a few people ask and we wanted to confirm publicly in case anyone was still unsure.

The city of Lexington has a new Junior Fire Chief. Abdulrahman (Abdul) Alyafi, a fifth grade student at Brenda Cowan Elementary School, was given the honorary title today by Fire Chief Kristin Chilton, at a ceremony held at Brenda Cowan Elementary. Congratulations Abdul!

Fire crews are working a 2nd alarm fire in the 300 block of Midland Pl. Media Staging area is at Midland Ave and 3rd St.

Update: Media Staging Area for 2nd alarm fire moved to Murphy Memorial Art Garden at Nelson Avenue and 3rd St.

Update #2 for 2nd alarm fire/300 block of Midland Pl.: fire has been knocked down, crews are checking for extension, no injuries or hospital transports reported at this time, a fire investigator is on scene, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire crews have responded to multiple water rescues, near the Kentucky River. No injuries reported. The Kentucky River will rise another 2-3 feet, and will not crest until March 3-4. If you live in the river area, be prepared to evacuate, with your pets, as conditions worsen.
