In British folklore, brambles (blackberry vines) are associated with protection and boundary-setting. It was believed that passing under a bramble arch could ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune. #LegendaryWednesday 📷Dall-E

RIP the great artist Norman Ackroyd (1938-16.09.24): etcher-magician who conjured weather & light from metal & acid; his work constitutes one of the great visual records of this archipelago’s edges. We travelled together—& I made this programme with him: bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

This precious baby is Angel, found ‘sleeping’ on a busy footpath, covered in fly strike; numerous people walking by😡. Angel’s finder knew she was desperately ill, sadly it was too late for Angel, she died a few hours after being admitted. PLEASE share OUT IN THE DAY IS NOT OK

Plate glass, metal-frame revolution: Oriel Chambers, Water St, Liverpool by Peter Ellis, 1864. Skyscrapers started here. The Builder, 1865 said it "would be depressing were it not ludicrous", later Pevsner called it "almost unbelievably ahead of its time".

The miracle that is a restored #ghostpond in the middle of arable. This #pond was filled in >100 yrs ago & lost. We ressurected it back in 2015. It is now *ALIVE*. How many species can you see? You may even see fish. The most successful form of ecological restoration known!

#autumn #fall #biodiversity Don't burn fallen leaves; many friends are hidden among them. Leave them, or pile into quiet corners as winter habitat. Too tidy is nature's enemy.

It was one of the greatest privileges and pleasures of my life to work with, and later get to know as a friend, the wildlife TV presenter Tony Soper, a true pioneer who entertained millions. Here is my Guardian Obituaries tribute to this fine man. theguardian.com/environment/20…

I don't think I have many followers around these parts but if anyone is local they may be interested in the Leek Open Sudios this Saturday. I'm not taking part but I hope to be around. By the way, there's one artist called jane Fraser, no relation I should point out.

Korbessa isn’t big enough to hold her own milk bottle, but she certainly has aspirations. For now, she practices when it’s empty & featherweight, savouring every last drop of milk. Have you met Korbessa? An orphan, she is the latest addition to our foster program. Read her

Had some really, really sad news tonight. I don't know who needs to hear this, but don't keep putting off that phone call / visit / apology / catch-up that you always think you can do another day. There comes a point where another day doesn't come.

92 years ago today Manor House, Turnpike Lane, Wood Green, Bounds Green & Arnos Grove opened on the Piccadilly line as part of the extension that would eventually make its way to Cockfosters. On the same day York Road closed to speed up journeys on the extended Piccadilly line
