Bruce Schneier, Harvard Kennedy School: AI is altering democracy globally: campaigning, voting, writing legislation, enforcing policy, how courts are run and more. Many of the changes will make democracies more responsive to the will of the people. youtube.com/watch?v=HCfexx…

Great metaphor from Jack Clark: AGI might be “like the Fed setting interest rates” - making decisions about how much “intelligence” to release into the world & calibrating the impacts #reboot24

Years ago people working in AI policy (including me) perhaps foolishly wanted to 'wake up' DC. Well, we got what we wanted! Now I think a lot of the challenge of AI policy relates to trying to stabilize this leviathan that has been woken.

It’s not uncommon for people to lobby electeds in a party different from their own. & to be friendly with staff. & for a politically active person to decide to run for office. I just don’t see what’s so weird here?

Good The Economist piece on how Xi's China is falling into an age-old authoritarian trap, restricting information to maintain control but in the process denying private investors & govt officials what they need to make good economic decisions: economist.com/leaders/2024/0…

Currently, U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Lee (Rep. Barbara Lee) is speaking about the inclusion of women, youth, and traditionally marginalized groups in the digital economy. HDP is grateful for Rep. Lee, who was the engine behind the initiative that led to this program!
