Good morning Athens! Starting a week of workshops as a Stiftung Mercator fellow with an excellent panel on EU as a global actor featuring Jana Puglierin, Elena Lazarou, Vassilis Ntousas. From defense to enlargement the #EU needs to go from legislation to implemetation. TÜSİAD

Draghi’s strategic economic growth agenda for the EU does not disappoint. It channels aspects of the thinking of Jean Monnet (EU defense integration), Jacques Delors (EU single market) and Bidenomics (cleantech / economic security). But above all, Draghi’s own vision. 🧵

The saga over 🇸🇮 EU commission candidate continues. It’s a FP failure and both the government and the opposition are at fault. 1. It could’ve been prevented by giving 2 names at the start. 2. VDL needs female candidates, but domestic politics again trample over opportunities.

A few impressions from my time in Athens as #TEFF Fellow: moderated a panel on EU’s role in 🇬🇷🇹🇷 relations at Institute of International Relations; discussed Greece’s FP with Alexandros Papaioannou; and talked “Eurowhiteness” with Hans Kundnani. All in all a week of nuanced discussions with a great cohort.
