As a kid, I was lucky enough to go to the inaugural CA 500 on 9/6/70 - with a friend & his family. After the 500, we flew overnight (with racers) to St Louis, MO, took a rental to DuQuoin, IL for the Dirt Car race on 9/7/70. Jim McElreath & Al Unser Sr p/u the wins. #INDYCAR

I remember reading about A. J. Foyt having engine trouble in practice at the 1961 Hut Hundred. He paid the last place starter 500 bucks to drive his car. AJ started last, won the race, & I believe he lapped most of the field.

Working for Grant King in ‘75 & ‘76 was an opportunity to be around Sheldon Kinser. Whether it was a Sprint Car, Silver Crown, or #IndyCar, Sheldon could wheel it. Within a few years, I was able to race against him - great guy & very good racer. RIP
