If palaeoproteomics research intrigues you, but you aren't really familiar with the methods and applications, these four invited speakers will introduce different parts of the field at the PAASTA conference! It will be a great way to receive an introduction to the research field.

When did feathers evolve? Are bird feathers homologous with pterosaur tufts? Check out our new preprint, lead by the fantastic Pierre Cockx. We use different models, outgroups and coding strategies to clarify feather evolution. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

"pirimoana" means "the pāua that clings to the sea" & was proposed by Ngāti Kuri. We used pioneering palaeogenetic techniques for shells to help discover this new species (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/17…) 🧵2/4

I didn't realise that Wal Ambrose had died (1933–2024). He made some amazing contributions to NZ, Oceanian and Pacific archaeology. A real polymath and a lovely chap to talk with. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
