Thursday’s strong storms, high winds caused significant tree damage to NOVEC’s electric system. Crews are finding trees across roads, broken poles, and downed lines. All available crews are working. Additional contractor crews have been called in. Next storm update: 12 noon.

6 p.m.: NOVEC lineworkers and crews from nearby jurisdictions are working around the clock in Stafford and southern Fauquier to clear fallen trees and repair downed lines. More than 30 broken electric poles are being replaced, a labor-intensive and time-consuming process.

Damage assessment from Thursday’s storm is complete and line crews will work through the night as the lights continue to come on for Stafford and Fauquier County customers. Please see NOVEC’s Outage Map or use your SmartHub app to find the restoration estimate for your outage.

As NOVEC crews continue working to restore power, residents are warned not to approach downed lines; assume they are energized and dangerous. Don't cut branches that are entangled with power lines. Stay clear and allow trained lineworkers to address the remaining outages safely.

As of 5 p.m.: As NOVEC crews make progress in southern Fauquier and Stafford counties, they are finding more broken poles. Even so, we expect most customers’ electricity to be restored tonight or very early tomorrow, but complete restoration is expected Sunday.

Lights will come on overnight for many of the 292 NOVEC customers who are still without power. (Outage numbers were down below 30, but a storm-related issue took the tally back up.) Most will have power tonight or early tomorrow; a few may not be restored until later on Sunday.

NOVEC crews are working this morning to restore power to 1 customer in Fauquier County. Those repairs, involving multiple poles and several downed wires, are expected to be completed by 11 a.m. Extensive resources are being deployed to this last outage from Thursday’s storm.
