The concern is that mpox appears to have evolved to become not only a sexually transmitted infection, but one which can also be passed on simply through close physical contact eg: between people who live in the same home. This is why it seems to be impacting children so much

Superb collaborative study suggesting that the famous "COVID-toes" may truly be episodes of pernio triggered by SARS-CoV-2, even without seroconversion: cell.com/action/showPdf…

Several studies on patients with #LongCovid and #Dysautonomia found reduced VO2max in patients compared to healthy controls, which appears to be due to decreased peripheral oxygen extraction and not deconditioning.

“Markers of #COVID19 activity, including test positivity, emerg dept visits, & hospitalizations, remain elevated, particularly among adults ages 65+ & children <2 yrs.” My add: #WearAMask indoors in crowded or poorly ventilated areas to lower risk of acute illness & #LongCovid.

Remember the big shedding / gut tropism debate following Wannigama et al., leading people to want to believe that the proportionality of high wastewater prevalence readings to high incidences was lost? x.com/dominiksteiger…

It turned out to be not true (and could be shown to be implausible early on, despite stubborn beliefs). Demonstrably not true in Germany, Switzerland, and France, at least. Here is France, showing a very high degree of proportionality of hospital indicators to wastewater.

"Hospitalizations are at their highest level since last winter, with more than 1,200 people with COVID-19 in Quebec hospitals. In recent weeks. Over 30 people have died from the virus every week." It's time to bring back masks in healthcare settings. cbc.ca/news/canada/mo…

This paper on thromboinflammation is everywhere this week. Unfortunately nobody commenting on it seems to have read it! I have, and it definitely doesn't say what commentators are suggesting. 🧵nature.com/articles/s4158…

1. There are dialysis studies that show ⬇️infectious death with GLP1RA in the precovid era 2. The did a similar analysis with Finerenone 2 yrs ago and *acute* mortality ⬇️ The obvious inference, i.e., that #covid (and other cold viruses) are vascular dz after the sniffles phase

New paper out nature - why are males more vulnerable to severe infections (ex acute #COVID), while females suffer more from autoimmunity (SLE, MS etc and also #LongCovid)? sex chromosomes or hormones? Here we studied adaptation of human immune systems to gender-affirming

A very interesting new study by Petter Brodin and colleagues shows that gender-affirming testosterone therapy changes immune phenotypes leading to reduced type I interferon and enhanced TNF signatures nature.com/articles/s4158…
