New hack canter opens on Epsom and Walton Downs for horse riders—nearly 2 kms of superb grass downland turf. epsomandwaltondowns.craddocks.co.uk/2022/08/19/hac… Only for use in the afternoon, and only west to east please. Thanks particularly to The Jockey Club and The British Horse Society for facilitating agreement.
Delightful walk yesterday along Morchard Bishop restricted byway 55 at Middlecott, added to the Devon definitive map and statement several years ago. There are 100s more like this in Devon yet to be added—now the 2026 cut-off has been abandoned thanks to Richard Benyon.
We’ll be joining Dartmoor National Park in court appealing the wild-camping case, represented pro bono by top silk Richard Honey KC and FTB Chambers colleagues—and a witness statement from me.
Delightful Park Lane, Bishopsbourne upgraded to bridleway following DMMO app in 2018. No objections. Diverted as bridleway by Elham Valley Railway Co in 1890 following run-in with Bridge Union Rural Sanitary Authority. Bit surprised SC granted permission, as though of national interest, the right to wild camp relates only to Dartmoor—although in Open Spaces Society view, the interpretation of the legislation has much wider impacts. Perhaps the SC agrees.
Speaking to Claire Marshall we met to talk about just one of thousands of obstructed paths. @cornwallcouncil should be enforcing against offenders (those that break the law) & recovering its costs from offenders. It’s not taking its duty seriously #cornwall bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…
