If you are simmering, baking, roasting, or boiling food, check it regularly. Remain in the home while food is cooking, and use a timer to remind you to check on your cooking. After cooking, check the kitchen to make sure all burners and other appliances are turned off.

Grease fire 1. Cover the pan with its lid. 2. Turn the heat off. With the lid on and the heat off, the fire should quickly put itself out. 3. Leave covered until the pan is cool. NEVER use water to put out a grease fire. miramichi.org/education-awar…

Assign a Family Member to Account For Each Pet. Know your pet’s favorite hiding spots, so that when the alarms sound, you can grab them and go. If the smoke alarm sounds, get out and stay out. Never go back inside for pets in a fire. Tell firefighters if your pet is trapped.

A fire is a scary situation and pets may run off. Microchipped pets are much more likely to be returned to their owners. After a fire, watch your pet closely if acting lethargic or having trouble breathing could be a sign of smoke inhalation see your vet for follow-up care.

Keep leftovers & flammable items off the stovetop, so pets aren’t tempted to jump up and bump into, or knock over cooking equipment. Some pets are chewers. Watch pets to make sure they don’t chew through electrical cords. miramichi.org/education-awar…

MFD needs to talk about our furry member, on call 24/7/365, CHARLIE B (4 yrs). He's relaxing today. Our job is stressful and places great strain on mental health. Having this trained guy to provide affection, comfort and support when needed is priceless. Enjoy your day Charlie.
