It's the ideal time to give your lawn some attention to ensure it’s in good shape through the winter & ready for next spring. Aside from a mower, you’ll need a Garden Fork or an Aerator, a spring-tined lawn rake, a hand fork, a watering can, grass seed for patching up & Lawn Feed

When cutting the grass at this time of the year, lift your mower blades to about 4cm. This will allow as much sunlight as possible to reach the roots. To prevent possible diseases from taking hold, ensure all grass clippings are cleared to the compost heap & not left on the lawn.

Scarifying removes moss & thatch, which can inhibit the growth of healthy new grass. Use a spring-tined rake like our Neverbend Professional 48" Flexo Rake and vigorously rake out excessive thatch, moss & other debris which may have accumulated over the summer.

Once the lawn has been scarified, spike it with a garden fork. This helps reduce compaction, improves surface drainage, & helps to prevent waterlogging. Moving across the lawn, push the fork 8cm deep into the ground. Repeat this every 15cm until you’ve covered the whole lawn.

Our October flower of the month is Salvia, a member of the mint family, including rosemary, thyme, lavender, and basil. It’s a perennial plant that flowers from midsummer until late Autumn. Excellent in a herbaceous border, it also does well planted in pots. #salvia #perennials
