So proud of this amazing University of North Alabama student teacher leading an Open Court Reading lesson in Kindergarten! She and her cooperating teacher Amanda Martin have been working so hard together to learn the program during CPT and teach it together! Keep it up ladies!

Today we read one of the best articles I’ve ever read about reading instruction. The conversations we had after reading were amazing! “We abandoned what worked because we didn’t like how it felt to us as adults”. We have to remember we are here for the students, not us! #FCSLearn

There are times when you know you're in a room where great things are taking place. Today was one of those times! First Region 1 Curr Dir meeting of the school year...AMSTI, UNA, RIC, OSI, & ARI leaders joined alongside our LEA leaders to collaborate and grow. 👏👏

Ms. Scott’s kindergartners Weeden Elementary are working in Open Court Reading McGraw Hill PreK-12 with the letter ‘Kk’ and ‘ck’ sound. Susan Booth Thornton was here observing and provided feedback to the reading specialist/IP, Rachel Graves. #FCSLearn

Thank you, RES for hosting today's Science of Reading Spotlight School visit. We had 32 in attendance. Those who visited witnessed exemplary 3rd grade ELA instruction aligned to the SOR.

Charts from today's SOR Spotlight School visit RES (I failed to capture a picture of the 4th team's chart.) We witnessed outstanding instruction aligned to the SOR across each 3rd grade classroom. Student-centered coaching and embedded professional learning were evident.

Another takeaway from today's Science of Reading Spotlight School visit was the focus on explicit vocabulary instruction! We witnessed it in every 3rd grade classroom! Changing the trajectory RES by utilizing LETRS strategies for vocabulary 📚👏

Thank you to Colbert Heights Elem for hosting a Learning Lab focused on OCR! The vulnerability by the principal & teachers to open their doors for others to observe OCR instruction after 6 weeks of implementation was very much appreciated by those in attendance. #strongertogether
