The US Navy cruiser is being replaced by the Flight III Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyers (DDG). Notably a Flight IIA DDG, the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG-121), is serving the USS Abraham Lincoln CSG in the cruiser role as integrated air & missile defense.
