The legal victory in #BrownvBoard did not transform the country overnight, and much work remains seven decades later. Today, we recognize how striking down segregation in the nation’s public schools provided a major catalyst for the civil rights movement and our work today.

SCOTUS's ruling against state-sanctioned segregation in Brown sparked the “Massive Resistance.” Some states, particularly those in the South, passed resolutions to categorize Brown as an amendment and not a Supreme Court ruling. More in our latest brief tminstituteldf.org/renewing-the-p…

Following George Floyd's murder in the summer of 2020, hundreds of protestors were arrested on felony charges. These arrests help fuel a false and dangerous narrative that protestors in support of Black lives are involved in acts of domestic terrorism. tminstituteldf.org/police-and-pro…

Same-sex marriage was federally legalized in the SCOTUS case Obergefell v. Hodges #OTD in 2015. LDF's amicus brief and argument that LGBTQ+ couples have a constitutional right to equal protection under the law were central to the Court's ultimate decision. #PrideMonth

The Voting Rights Act, the crowning achievement of the civil rights movement, was signed into law #OTD in 1965. We are sober-minded about the reality that the march toward equality continues. The recent assaults on voting rights are salient reminders of this.
