Human Rights Watch's letter to Cameron is here. The UK and US forcibly displaced the entire Indigenous Chagossian people from their homeland over 50 years ago to make way for a military base on Diego Garcia. These are ongoing crimes against humanity. hrw.org/news/2024/01/2…

In this 2023 report, Human Rights Watch set out the UK and US crimes against the Chagossian people and the Chagossians' right to reparations, including the right to return home. All states involved in the negotiations over Chagos should guarantee this now. hrw.org/report/2023/02…

Our Sub-Committee on the Overseas Territories has published a letter on the Chagos Islands. It calls on the Govt to run a pilot resettlement programme and ensure the continued operation of the base at Diego Garcia, which plays a fundamental role in global security.
