On day 2 of the UN-led polio vaccination campaign in Gaza, @unrwa officials are happy with the numbers of children turning up to medical centres.

On the second day of #polio vaccinations in #Gaza middle area, UNRWA teams visited children tent to tent & classroom to classroom. This UNRWA school in Deir Al Balah has appalling conditions for the 15,000 displaced people sheltering inside. What they need most is a #Ceasefire

We need at least 90% vaccination coverage to stop the outbreak and prevent the spread of #polio in the #GazaStrip. Today, UNRWA teams will be in the middle areas again to vaccinate as many children as possible. Our efforts will continue across all of #Gaza in the coming days.

Due to military operations and evacuation orders, people in #Gaza have been squeezed into increasingly smaller spaces. With families crammed into overcrowded shelters or tents on any available land they can find, living conditions are inhumane and enable the spread of diseases.

The #polio vaccination campaign is still ongoing in #Gaza middle areas. In the first two days, UNRWA and partners vaccinated around 161,000 children. More were reached today. Tomorrow, we’ll be out there again providing this critical vaccine to as many children as possible.
