Update—I got an answer from ATP: Sinner’s 400 ranking points from Indian Wells that were invalidated will *NOT* be retroactively subtracted. Last week will therefore still be counted as Jannik Sinner’s 10th at #1, not Novak Djokovic’s 429th. Can’t say I think that’s right.

Since the Australian Open switched to hard courts in 1988 Aryna Sabalenka (2024) becomes the 5th WTA player to win both hard court majors in the same season Steffi Graf: 1988-1989 Monica Seles: 1991-1992 Martina Hingis: 1997 Angelique Kerber: 2016

Jpeg has improved her movement a lot laterally side to side. When she’s backed in corners she does hit a much stronger shot before recovering back to the middle. I do think she can still improve her diagonal speed a tad when running up to shorter balls (droppers, short volleys).

Wimbledon and AO the next target for Iga Wimbledon and RG the next target for Aryna Krejcikova with QFs at the two hard court slams. So let’s not forget about her either as she can come alive at literally any moment.

Sinner so comfortable with the deep return position and he knows Fritz isn’t gonna S&V. It’s one thing to improve your lateral movement which he has, but without a confident transition game in rally you can’t beat the best tier 1 players, no matter how high your 1st serve% is.

I’m still kinda disappointed in sets 3 and 4 from Daniil Medvedev in the QF. Thought that would be the match of the tournament, and it turned out to be an absolute dud of a match where neither played well at the same time besides a few points in the beginning of the 4th.

Ayyy time to give Fritzy some credit 2 great points in the 3-3 game to break in set 3 -Brilliant drop shot and lob combo -A barrage of massive forehands and a finish at net!!

Very dominant final overall and result never in doubt even when down 3-5 in the 3rd. 55-5 in 2024 (2 500s, 2 1000s, 2 majors) 75-7 since Beijing That pretty much also seals YE#1 as he’s nearly 3000 pts ahead in the race from Zverev and Alcaraz.

The last time before today that the same men’s singles and women’s singles champions won both the Australian Open and U.S. Open in the same season was 1988 (Wilander + Graf) Marin Cilic and Juan Martin Del Potro weren’t born then.

A post #USOpen2024 update to this list of 15 Major Champs with a career 50%+ Win-Loss record vs Top 10 opposition You can see Jannik Sinner is at 32-31, which is an INSANE turnaround. He left US Open 2023 being 13-26 vs Top 10 (19-5 since then)‼️

Have a feeling Carlos Alcaraz will have his best indoor season to date & play great. Losing early at the U.S. Open (and Sinner basically locking up #1) will make him play without any pressure whatsoever. Also should have more left in the tank physically than this time last year…
