Why are farmers ditching #factoryfarming? They risk everything while the giant corps they're contracted with (Tyson, Perdue) own the animals & bank the profits. See how The Transfarmation Project & @sraproject supports farmers' transitions: modernfarmer.com/2024/05/they-o… Modern Farmer

.Animal Outlook. @Transfarmations. ASPCA. These nonprofits help farmers quit #factoryfarming. But to help more farmers ditch the exploitative system, we need better policies, like Vermont's grants to help small farmers diversify. Read more in Modern Farmer: modernfarmer.com/2024/05/exitin…

Factory farming is a leading driver of Amazon deforestation. Forest destruction and climate change are making humid forests turn into dry areas that release gases into the air, making it harder to fight climate change and protect wildlife.

Environmental groups are suing U.S. EPA, claiming the agency failed to control #FactoryFarm pollution under the #CleanWaterAct. Ag groups filed a document in support of EPA’s refusal to strengthen its factory farm #WaterPollution program. Oral arguments are expected this fall.

#MeatIndustry groups are spending millions on lobbying and political donations. Many have increased their contributions over the past few years. These increases were directly related to legislation that “protects producers over businesses,” like the #FarmBill.

Without #ChevronDeference, regulating the worst polluting industries will be significantly harder. This decision will affect our #FoodSystem in many ways—and the ones who stand to gain the most from it are major corporations.

Overuse of antibiotics in industrial animal agriculture likely contributes to antibiotic resistance, making human diseases more difficult to treat. We need a food system that prioritizes public health over profits.

Most farmers in the United States who raise chickens do so under contract for major meat companies. But many farmers fall into an endless loop of paying off and taking on debt. Farmers have compared themselves to “indentured servants” in these relationships.

I promise this Cara Buckley story about an Iowa farm family will be the most hopeful, gladdening, inspiring article you’ll read this week. Maybe this month. Also? Father & son Rand & Tanner Faaborg look like actors cast to play them in the movie. Gift link: nytimes.com/2024/08/14/cli…
