Alex Gateri from Universitetet i Oslo brings us his work in Tanzania looking at antibiotic use in animal production, which seems to be influenced by social, material and economical factors. One Health has the potential to address resistance risks. #UADays24

Elisabeth Rajala presents the work that SLU is doing on One Health as a whole. A lot of projects on #zoonosis, food #security, stewardship of antimicrobial use, environmental #monitoring, control of #residues, bacteriology & pharmacology. #UADays24

Finishing up the #OneHealth session with Gabriel Baldanzi and his epidemiological exploration of how antibiotic use associates with #microbiota diversity and species #abundance Even taking #antibiotics as long as 4-8years earlier (even if just 1!) has a significant effect. #UADays24

Closing off #UADays24 with a lookout to the future: current emergent #AMR pathogens. Starting with Oliver Cornely and #fungi! What’s available, new upcoming drugs, how to manage #candidemia & changes on susceptibility patterns. We should not forget about fungal infections!

Moving onto #HIV with Annemarie Wensing. How can we monitor the reasons for viral rebound? They have worked with using drug exposure test at viral rebound, allowing to either give more counsel, or do a targeted resistance test to those that do take the drug #UADays24

How does resistance to new drugs look like? Chaitanya Tellapragada, from Karolinska Institutet has worked with resistance to azt-avi combination in the very scary carbapenemase-producing E.coli. Mainly driven by PBP3 mutations & decreased permeability & enzymes, combined! #UADays24

Up our physician PhD student Lisa Faxen, who has done an extensive work to explore resistance to another new drug: #cefiderocol (a.k.a. The trojan horse drug) Difficult to detect & high levels of #resistance already after short period of use. #UADays24

Last talk for this #UADays24 (sad!) by Marie Wrande, who has been looking at the selection of a #multiresistance plasmid in sewage water Water coming out of the hospital selects for it, but not from community Combinations now being explored to see the direction of interactions!

Today we celebrate our #medchem PhD student Kinga Gulyás becoming half a doctor after defending her licenciate thesis. Her work brings to the table new strategies to treat #resistance to #betalactams by designing inhibitors to metallo-beta-lactamases. Congratulations!

We also celebrate today the half-way mark of Ottilia Andersson to her PhD on #MedicinalChemistry - optimizing a very cool way to make chemical libraries to find new #antibiotics - DNA-encodes libraries. This way one can make a very large library in a short amount of time!
