All of this! Although Congress also has a culture of unpaid internships that we have worked hard to (mostly) eliminate in Westminster.

One of the largest branch meetings in our history today met and agreed to begin the process of balloting to strike. IPSA have the power to prevent this from happening but have failed to meaningfully negotiate

Bullying is not an acceptable part of our political culture. Respectful conduct in the workplace is the least we should expect, and staff should not have to fear coming to work. We will always press for higher standards in parliament and constituency offices.

Too right, IPSA are currently looking at pay progression as the acknowledge there is a problem with pay stagnation. A shame House of Commons Speaker Conference on Employment yielded no recommendations that would see this problem addressed.

A truly significant moment. For the first time an MP has lost their seat predominantly due to bullying staff. I hope others take note and recognise that their behaviour may now have severe consequences.

And so Bone lost the seat not only for himself but for his girlfriend and his party. The consequences of bullying your staff are now clear and real. MPs take note.

Our message to MPs following the dropping of Monday’s vote to exclude predatory MPs from our parliamentary workplace.

After fifteen years I am no longer Chair of Parliamentary Staff Branch, the union branch representing staff of MPs and Lords from all parties in parliament and in constituency offices. Please forgive me a bit of self-indulgence to detail some of the achievements we have made in that time.
