An incredible example of how endangered archives, when organized and described, can shift scholarly conversations and historical understanding. Congratulations to Sauda. And, thank you to MEAP Board Member Derek R Peterson for showcasing her work.
Shortly ugandamuseums is closing for a 10-month renovation. They'll overhaul the roof & fix the building up. In the meantime: we are doing archival research about the 39 articles that were recently returned from Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. They'll be put on display when the Museum re-opens.
Earlier this week police @umich responded to a peaceful protest organized by TAHRIR Coalition with unwarranted violence, arresting 4 people. This morning faculty govt--on which I sit--passed a resolution decrying this foreclosure of students' right to free expression. Here it is.
I am in Kampala this week, and am giving a paper Makerere University CHUSS about the perils of film making in the service of Idi Amin’s govt. Do come! Details below.

Today at 2 pm Kampala time I'll be talking Makerere University CHUSS about film-making in Idi Amin's Uganda. The focus is on two revolutionary films we've recently digitized from the rich archives UBC UGANDA. Do come! The physical location & the Zoom link are in the notice below.
Here's another set of thoughts from me about the historical relics that have recently come back to ugandamuseums from Cambridge. Thanks to Arinaitwe Otim Rugyendo🇺🇬 for putting this two-parter together.
I had the pleasure of sitting for an interview yesterday with Sharon Kyomugisha over UBC UGANDA. She’s working on a fascinating documentary about the life and times of Idi Amin. Dropping soon!
