For my first feature in Science Magazine, I spent months following a daring effort to extract ice cores from Antarctica's stormy west coast. Scientists hope the key to understanding why "doomsday" glaciers Thwaites and Pine Island first started melting is frozen within that ice.

On May 22, a terracotta mural depicting eight iconic Antarctic species created by local children and youth has been unveiled to delegates attending the #ATCM46 Antarctic Treaty meetings. Following a brief presentation, children handed over messages and a small gift to delegates.
