Fantastic lecture by the incomparable Manesh Patel who reminds us of not just how far we’ve come, but the urgent work left to do as we affirm our commitment to delivering the best care to our patients and pushing the frontiers of medicine!

Sad to be missing AHA but grateful for the opportunity to care for our patients at Duke Heart over the weekend. And for the generosity of Duke Cardiology Fellows PD Anna Lisa Chamis for sharing her tickets to the Duke/AZ Game with me! Go Duke!

I shamelessly stole this from Felson's Principles of Chest Roentgenology which is a fantastic little book on chest imaging and I encourage everyone to read

Thanks! This was a blast to write with Mike Keller Megan Acho and Burton Lee! 5 signs of autopeep 1) persistent end exp flow 2) volume in ≠ volume out (flow in ≠ flow out) 3) pressure above peep during exp hold 4) ineffective triggering 5) broken tooth sign

Key caveat by Andrew Gelman et al.: “randomized controlled trials are themselves nonrandom observational comparisons: the people in the study won’t in general be representative of the population of interest”. RCT cohorts are convenience samples created by undefined selection forces.

“…reported 95% CIs imply inferences about some larger population [but]… are not based on probability sampling…RCT reports …implicitly assume away how convenience sampling influences the estimations of these group-specific outcomes” Pavlos Msaouel raises critical questions

Couldn’t agree more- beaver creek cardiology conference has some of the highest yield teaching coupled with some of the best snow. One of the highlights of the year

Septic cardiomyopathy worsens over the first 48 and recovers by day 5-7. Not sure that a rodent model of septic cardiomyopathy where rats are sacrificed at 3hrs best capitulates pathophysiology and effective treatments
