Many mobility scooter riders report feeling ignored or treated as a nuisance by other road users. They find pavements blocked by cars, wheelie bins or shop signs making journeys stressful as they have to take detours, & some stop going out. How can we make their journey easier?

Mobility scooters are classed as invalid carriages and users do not require a driving licence, tax or insurance but they must be 14 years old or over. Many users do take out insurance policies to protect themselves & their scooter in the event of a collision or theft. Sure Wise Ltd

There are two types of mobility scooters, Class 3 can be used on the road & has a max speed of 8mph. Class 2 scooters can only be used on pavements. Any mobility scooter used on a pavement must not exceed 4mph, the rider can face large fines for exceeding this limit. Sure Wise Ltd

There are over 4 million mobility scooter users in the UK which will increase as the average age of the population increases. You or a member of your family may need one in the future, if we work together now to raise & tackle the issues, we can make them safer & reduce the risks

Overtaking can be tricky. Here are a few tips for doing it safely. What else would you add? 📷 Look ahead and beyond the vehicle you're planning to overtake 📷 Avoid overtaking at junctions and lay-bys 📷 If overtaking a queue of traffic, pay attention to each vehicle.
