Great to see that over 300 people have signed Lepra's #WorldLeprosyDay petition & pledged not to use the word 'leper'. Please keep sharing to help end prejudice and discrimination: bit.ly/2RUqF4o

When political leaders use leprosy as a negative metaphor they reinforce misinformation about the disease. Read the letter to President Macron, written by people affected by leprosy: bit.ly/2GAfhoh Emmanuel Macron @srleprosy Mathias Duck

Fascinating presentation at WHO Skin NTDs conference by Dr Indra Napit (Leprosy Mission Nepal) on use of cultures from patients’ own blood to successfully heal difficult leprosy and diabetic ulcers. Applicable perhaps to Buruli Ulcer?

At WHO Skin NTDs conference Benita Jansen (NLR) reports impressive progress testing efficacy of the new mobile SkinApp in Tanzania. Next test countries: Ethiopia and Mozambique. Available on Google-Play and soon in Apple Store. 78% correct diagnosis by PHC workers using the app.

Imagine being referred to by your curable condition, not your name; being ostracised by friends, family, neighbours or made to leave your home as people don't know the facts... Look again at leprosy this #EmpathyDay. lepra.org.uk

Alice Cruz, special rapporteur, is presenting to the Human Rights Council her findings on discrimination against of women and children affected by leprosy. Women are at higher risk than men in terms of healthcare, leprosy-related abuse and social barriers.

People affected by #leprosy cannot all be grouped in the same category. They come from different groups & cultural backgrounds. If we don’t take this into account, women & children affected by leprosy will continue to be left behind – @srleprosy at #HRC41: ow.ly/H9NP50uLmJN

The UN Special Rapporteurs on Health and on Leprosy - reporting in Geneva today - both stress the limitations of the biomedical approach to health and the need for a human rights approach to mental health and to #leprosy.

True, and also true that at least as many additional countries also have laws that discriminate against persons affected by leprosy - 150 laws in total.
